About Math in the Garden
Our bestselling book Math in the Garden, written by educators at University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley and Lawrence Hall of Science, transforms math into a joyful, hands-on adventure. Organized around the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ Principles and Standards, its four chapters cover numbers and operations, measurement, geometry, patterns, and data analysis. Recommended for ages 5–13, the lessons can be scaled up or down to fit a wide range of learners. While designed for garden spaces, the activities easily adapt to any outdoor setting—fields, lawns, or even sidewalk greenways.
